Goodyear, Arizona no longer had cotton fields.

They were gone.

Not long ago Pima cotton stretched out to the flaming edge of the hot white sky.

They’d been scraped bare for tract homes, no more high yield high quality crops trucked out of town.

Farmers made long awaited fortunes selling out to developers.  Then they packed up and headed off.

Some bought a place on the coast around Laguna Beach where they would soak up the marine layer in the spring and admire the glistening ocean in the fall.
