Farmington, New Mexico would never see anyone like her again. When she first hit town in 1906, they were just finishing up the railroad to Durango, Colorado. She was dispatched to Farmington by the president of the Denver & Rio Grande Western to inspect the narrow-gauge lines.
At first, none of the men in Farmington believed she was an engineer. Once that was resolved, none of them believed she knew how to play split poker. That too was squared away. She used the winnings to pick up seven 16o acre parcels just south of town.
