Cody, Wyoming, she made it clear at every opportunity, was the last place she wanted to be. She never mentioned how she wound up in Cody and never shared any of the particulars of an often alluded to fall from grace back east.
After she flunked out of real estate school and presumably burned through the last of her money, people expected her to leave town. But she didn’t. Some say it was her second Cody,Wyoming winter that snapped away the hard edges, breaking them off like icicles.
Others say soon after she started going up into the Absaroka Range, she fell under the spell of the mountains. Whether or not that prompted her to go to work as a ranger at the Buffalo Bill State Park nobody in town ever cared to weigh in on.
